Docks
We build new docks and repair old ones: pile docks, floating docks, gangways and swim steps for cottages and home shores. We survey the shore, choose the foundation to suit the lake bottom and the ice, and build with durable materials made for outdoor use.
We build piers on Lake Lohjanjärvi and Lake Hiidenvesi, and in the Inkoo and Raasepori archipelago.
- ✓ We usually reply the same day
- ✓ The old dock is removed and taken away at the same time
“That looks great! You really are skilled. Thank you! In the morning there was just the frame, and now it is finished.”

+ we handle ourselves − we refer onward
-
We survey the shore conditions: the water depth, the type of lake bottom (clay, sand, stones or bedrock), how the ice moves and the waves. Based on these, we choose the foundation, for example piles, stone or concrete cribs or floating pontoons. We plan the size, shape and height of the dock for how you'll use it, whether for swimming, a boat, a sauna or just spending time.

What affects the price
What determines the price
These factors affect the price the most.
Clay, stony ground and bedrock need different foundations, and deep water means longer piles.
On open water and where the ice moves, the structure needs to be sturdier.
A shallow shore can need a long gangway.
A steep slope or no road access to the shore slows down moving the materials.
Pressure-treated wood is the cheapest, larch and composite cost more.
Steps, railings, lights and bollards increase the price.
This estimate isn't a quote. You always get the price before we start.
04 / Before you start
A dock that survives the ice
The piling, ice protection and type of dock are chosen to suit the shore, so the moving ice doesn't take the dock with it in spring.
-
Is a permit needed?
An ordinary cottage or home dock usually doesn't need a permit when it's built on your own shore for your own use. Under the Water Act (vesilaki), the shore owner may also build a dock on a water area owned by someone else, as long as it doesn't cause damage or significant harm to the owner of the water area. However, a permit or notification can be needed if the dock is larger than usual, gets in the way of boat traffic or a neighbor, or if the area is in a shore detailed plan, a nature reserve or a Natura area. We check this with the municipal building control authority and, if needed, with the Elinvoimakeskus (regional vitality center, which replaced the ELY Centres on January 1, 2026) [TARKISTA virallinen englanninkielinen nimi] before we start.
-
Ice and winter
Ice is the biggest strain on a dock. The piles are driven deep enough, and the ice protection is designed for the shore. Piling is often done in winter from the ice, which on many shores is easier than in summer.
-
Dock maintenance
It's worth oiling the deck of a wooden dock every couple of years and checking the fixings and piles every spring after the ice has gone. Replace rotten boards in time, before the damage spreads to the frame.
A floating or a fixed dock?
| Fixed pile dock | Floating dock | |
|---|---|---|
| Suits | A shallow and sheltered shore | Deep water and a changing water level |
| Feel | Sturdy, doesn't rock | Rocks a little in the waves |
| Ice | Without ice protection, the piles can rise with the ice | Lifted onto the shore or anchored for the winter |
| Height above the water | Fixed | Always stays at the same height |
| Price | Depends on the bottom and the depth | Pontoons cost more, but there is less foundation work |
05 / How it works
From call to finished dock in four steps
-
Call or form
Tell us what kind of dock you need and for which shore. Photos of the shore and an estimate of the water depth make the estimate quicker. We usually reply the same day.
-
Surveying the shore
We come to the site, measure the depth and check the bottom. We go through the size of the dock, the foundation, the materials and the permits together.
-
Quote and schedule
You get a fixed price, and we agree on the start. Piling can also be done in winter from the ice.
-
Building and a clean handover
The foundations, frame, deck and fittings are built on the agreed schedule. If needed, the old dock is removed, the demolition waste is taken away and the shore is cleaned up.
How much does a dock cost? + −
A fixed wooden pile dock (approx. 2 × 6 m) typically costs about €5,000–9,000 installed, and an anchored floating dock (approx. 3 × 6 m) about €4,500–8,500 (incl. VAT). The price depends most on the bottom, the depth, the ice and the length of the gangway. We give you a fixed price after surveying the shore.
How much does a dock repair cost? + −
Replacing the deck boards costs about €50–90/m², and small repairs are billed at the hourly rate of €62/h (incl. VAT). If the frame or piles are in poor condition, a new dock can work out cheaper. We'll tell you at the site visit.
Does a dock need a permit? + −
An ordinary cottage or home dock on your own shore usually doesn't need a permit. However, a larger dock or building in a shore detailed plan area, a nature reserve or a Natura area can need a permit or a notification. We check this with the municipality and, if needed, with the Elinvoimakeskus before we start.
Which is better, a floating or a fixed dock? + −
A fixed pile dock is sturdy and suits a shallow shore. A floating dock suits deep water and always stays at the same height above the water. The choice depends on the depth of the shore, the bottom and the ice.
Will the dock survive the ice? + −
Yes, when the piles and ice protection are designed for the shore. Floating docks are lifted out or anchored for the winter, so the ice can't break them.
When is the best time to build a dock? + −
A dock can be built when the water is open, from spring to fall, and piling can often also be done in winter from the ice. It's worth agreeing on summer dock projects already in winter or spring.
How long does it take to build a dock? + −
A typical cottage dock is usually done in 2–5 working days once the materials are on site. A long gangway or a difficult shore makes the work take longer.
Can I get the household deduction for building a dock? + −
Yes. You can get the household deduction for the labor portion when the dock is built or repaired at your own home or holiday home. We show the labor portion separately on the invoice.
Do you remove the old dock at the same time? + −
Yes. We remove the old dock and take the demolition waste away at the same time as the new one is built.
What area do you serve? + −
Our main area is Vihti, Nummela and Lohja, and we build docks for example on the shores of Hiidenvesi, Lohjanjärvi and Tervalampi. We also work in Espoo, Kirkkonummi, Siuntio and the Inkoo and Raasepori archipelago. If your site is further away, feel free to ask, and we'll agree on the travel costs.
