Canopies and Pergolas
We build canopies and pergolas in your yard for shelter from rain and sun: terrace roofs, glass-roofed outdoor rooms, carports, and bike and storage shelters. We design the frame for Finnish snow loads and handle the work from the foundations to the final touches.
We build canopies and pergolas mostly in Vihti and Lohja, and also in Nurmijärvi and Vantaa.

What affects the price
What determines the price
These factors affect the price the most.
A long span without posts needs heavier beams.
Felt and sheet metal are the cheapest, polycarbonate is mid-range and glass is the most expensive.
The soil (clay, bedrock, slope) decides whether we need ground screws, concrete footings or rock anchoring.
In southern Finland, the frame is designed for a snow load of about 2.0–2.5 kN/m².
Gutters, lighting, side walls and painting increase the price.
Fixing to a wall needs tight flashing and fixing to a load-bearing structure.
This estimate isn't a quote. You'll get a fixed price before we start.

A canopy that handles snow and rain
The slope, the fixing and the roofing decide whether it stays dry underneath and whether the structure lasts through a winter with a lot of snow.

Is a permit needed?
A small terrace roof or pergola usually doesn't need a building permit. However, the municipality's building ordinance and the local detailed plan decide in the end, and the distance to the neighbor's boundary, for example, has to be taken into account. A carport and a larger canopy can need a permit or a notification. The Building Act (rakentamislaki 751/2023) changed on January 1, 2025, and practices vary by municipality, so we check whether a permit is needed with the building control in Vihti, Lohja or Espoo before the work starts.
-
Snow and water
The canopy is built with enough slope, and a gutter carries the rainwater away from the foundations. In winters with a lot of snow, it's worth brushing the snow off glass and polycarbonate roofs.
-
Fixing to the house
When the canopy is fixed to the wall of the house, it's fixed to a load-bearing structure, and the joint is flashed so water can't get into the wall structure. If the wall can't take the load, the canopy gets its own posts.
-
Building a terrace at the same time?
It's worth planning the canopy together with the terrace, so the posts and foundations can be done in one go.
Roofing: glass, polycarbonate or sheet metal?
| Roofing | Pros | Things to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Glass | Clear and durable, looks good for decades | The most expensive, heavy, needs a sturdy frame |
| Polycarbonate (multiwall panel) | Light, costs less, lets the light through | Can turn yellow and scratch, noisy in the rain |
| Sheet metal | Costs less, handles snow well | Doesn't let the light through |
| Felt / bitumen roofing | Quiet, suits pergolas | Needs solid boarding underneath and is dark |

Building and a clean handover
The foundations, frame, roofing and finishing are done on the agreed schedule, and we clean up after ourselves. A typical terrace roof is usually done in a few days.
How much does a terrace roof cost? + −
A wall-mounted terrace roof typically costs about €4,000–9,000 installed, and one with a glass roof about €7,000–14,000 (incl. VAT, approx. 15–20 m²). A wooden pergola costs less, about €2,500–5,000. We give you a fixed price after the site visit.
How much does a carport cost? + −
A wooden carport for one car costs about €6,000–12,000 installed, and one with storage or for two cars about €10,000–20,000. The price depends especially on the size, the foundations and the roofing.
Does a terrace roof need a building permit? + −
A small terrace roof or pergola usually doesn't need a permit, but the municipality's building ordinance decides. A carport and larger canopies can need a permit. We check with you whether a permit is needed before we start.
Which is better for the roofing, glass or polycarbonate? + −
Glass is clearer, more durable and quieter, but it costs more and is heavier. Polycarbonate is light and costs less, but it can turn yellow and is noisy in the rain. For an outdoor room that lasts, we recommend glass.
Can the canopy take the snow load? + −
Yes. We design the frame and roofing for the local snow load. Even so, it's worth brushing the snow off glass and polycarbonate roofs in winters with a lot of snow.
Can the canopy be fixed to the wall of the house? + −
Yes, if the wall is load-bearing and can take the load. The joint is flashed so water can't get into the wall structure. Otherwise, the canopy gets its own posts.
Do you install a ready-made pergola that I bought myself? + −
Yes. We assemble and fix ready-made pergolas and canopies, for example from K-Rauta or Bauhaus, and build foundations for them when needed. The work is billed by the hour or at an agreed fixed price.
How long does it take to build a canopy? + −
A pergola or small canopy is often done in 1–3 days, and a terrace roof usually in 2–5 days. A carport with foundations usually takes about a week.
Can I get the household deduction for building a canopy? + −
Yes. You can get the household deduction for the labor portion when the canopy is built at your own home or holiday home. We show the labor portion separately on the invoice.
Do you work for housing companies? + −
Yes. We build, for example, bike and bin shelters for housing companies. Our customers include housing companies, businesses and private property owners.
What area do you serve? + −
Our main area is Vihti, Nummela and Lohja. We also work in Espoo, Helsinki, Kirkkonummi, Veikkola and Kauniainen. We go to Vantaa, Tuusula, Nurmijärvi, Sipoo and Siuntio on request. We have cottage sites on the shores of Lohjanjärvi and Hiidenvesi and in the Inkoo and Raasepori archipelago.
