Facades

We replace and repair the exterior cladding of your house, paint the facade and repair damaged spots. Rotten boards are replaced before painting, so the new finish lasts for years.

We repair and paint facades mostly in Vihti and Lohja, and also in Espoo and Kirkkonummi.

01 / What we do

What's included in a facade renovation

Wooden facades for houses, cottages and smaller buildings in the yard. If there's something unusual about the house, like a high gable or old paint, tell us right away.

02 / Preparation

Paint only lasts as long as the surface underneath

We do these before every paint job, including a maintenance repaint. The preparation is the part you can't see afterwards, but it decides whether the paint lasts 5 or 15 years.

  1. 1

    Rotten boards replaced

    Corner and fascia boards too.

  2. 2

    Scraping and brushing

Peeling paint removed before the new coat.

  3. 3

    Washing

Mold, algae and dirt removed from the surface.

  4. 4

    Flashings and seals

Checked around the windows and doors.

  5. 5

    Ventilation gaps open

At the plinth and the eaves, so the cladding doesn't rot.

03 / Before you start

Good to know before a facade renovation

Read first

Old paints and hazardous substances

Old houses can have paints containing lead or boards containing asbestos. In buildings built before 1994, hazardous substances are surveyed when needed before scraping or demolition.

  1. Is painting enough, or does the cladding need replacing?

If the boards are intact and only the surface is worn, a maintenance repaint is enough. If many boards have rotted, the paint doesn't stay on, or the wind barrier and battens are in poor condition, new cladding works out cheaper in the long run. At the site visit, we tell you which makes sense.

  2. Is a permit needed?

Cladding or paint of the same color and type usually doesn't need a permit. Changing the color, changing the cladding type or adding insulation can need a permit or a notification in a local detailed plan area or in a culturally and historically valuable environment. In a housing company, the housing company decides on the change. We check whether a permit is needed with the municipal building control authority.

  3. Ventilation is important

There must be a ventilation gap behind wooden cladding, and air must be able to flow at the plinth and the eaves. Blocked ventilation is the most common reason why cladding rots and paint peels. We check the ventilation on every job.

Book this summer's painting now

Exterior painting is done in dry weather, when the air and the surface are at least about +5 °C and the wood is dry. In southern Finland, the best season is from May to September. It's worth agreeing on summer painting jobs already in winter or spring.

What affects the price

What determines the price

These factors affect the price the most.

In a full repaint, scraping and primer take more time than in a maintenance repaint.

A high gable or a two-story house needs scaffolding and adds work.

Window frames, trim and other details need careful handwork.

The paint and the cladding material affect both the material cost and the labor cost.

This estimate isn't a quote. You'll get a fixed price after a site visit.

05 / How it works

From call to finished facade in four steps

  1. Call or form

Tell us the size of the house, the number of floors and what is needed: painting, repairs or new cladding. Photos of the facade make the estimate quicker. We usually reply the same day.

  2. Site visit

We come to the site, check the condition of the boards, paint and ventilation, and measure the facade.

  3. Quote and schedule

You get a fixed price, and we agree on the start depending on the weather.

  4. The work and a clean handover

We protect the windows, plants and yard, do the repairs and preparation, and paint or clad. Finally, we clean up and take the demolition waste away.

06 / FAQ

Frequently asked questions about facade renovation

Didn't find your answer? Call +358 44 724 5824 and let's talk.

How much does exterior house painting cost? + −

A maintenance repaint of a wooden house in good condition typically costs about €20–35/m², and a full repaint with preparation about €30–50/m² (incl. VAT). Exterior painting of a detached house with about 150 m² of facade usually costs about €4,500–8,000.

How much does new exterior cladding cost? + −

New exterior cladding, including removing the old cladding, the new cladding and painting, typically costs about €110–180/m², and with extra insulation about €180–280/m² (incl. VAT).

How often does a house need painting? + −

Exterior paint on a wooden house usually lasts 8–15 years. How long it lasts depends on the type of paint, the direction the wall faces and the quality of the preparation. South and west walls wear fastest, and they can be maintained separately in between.

Is painting enough, or does the cladding need replacing? + −

If the boards are intact, painting is enough. If there's a lot of rot or the wind barrier is in poor condition, it's worth replacing the cladding. At the site visit, we tell you which makes sense.

What time of year can a house be painted? + −

In dry weather, when the temperature is at least about +5 °C, usually from May to September. The wood mustn't be wet, and paint isn't applied in the rain or in strong sunshine.

Do I need a permit to change the color of the facade? + −

In a local detailed plan area and on culturally and historically valuable sites, changing the color or the cladding can need a permit. A maintenance repaint in the same color usually doesn't. We check this with the municipality before we start.

Do you also paint cottages, storehouses and saunas? + −

Yes. We also paint and repair smaller buildings, such as cottages, storehouses, saunas, sheds and fences.

Can I get the household deduction for a facade renovation? + −

Yes. You can get a household deduction of 40% of the labor portion, up to €2,100 per person per year (deductible €150), when the work is done in your own home or holiday home. We show the labor portion separately on the invoice.

What area do you serve? + −

Our main area is Vihti, Nummela and Lohja. We also work in Espoo, Helsinki, Kirkkonummi, Veikkola and Kauniainen. We have cottage sites on the shores of Lohjanjärvi and Hiidenvesi and in the Inkoo and Raasepori archipelago.
